Brothers Passed - Adytum on High

He was born February 9, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Glenn and Cecelia Owen. He was a 1967 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He was united in marriage on July 8, 1967, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Gloria J. Owen, who survives at home. Tim worked for Westinghouse/ABB from 1967 as an Engineer and Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement in 2005. He loved playing golf, watching his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with his family and grandchildren.

He was inducted into the East Boros Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1990 for his contribution on the football field of North Braddock Scott High School in 1961-62 and the University of Wisconsin-Stout from 1963-67. He continued his love of football by officiating the sport for 25 years with the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

Along with his wife, Gloria, Tim is also survived by his three children: Tina Neff of Springfield, Mo., Stacey Owen-Rush (Patrick) of Kansas City, Mo., and David Owen (Sherrie) of Jefferson City, Mo.; a brother: Paul Owen (Donna) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sisters: Barbara Trusilo (Jim) of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Estelle Zewe (Tom) of Jefferson City, Mo.; six grandchildren: Jacob, Paige, Chad, Anna, John and Emryk; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tim was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerome Stoisolovich passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on March 8, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. Karen (née Kozminski) Ali (Rob) Turnacliff, Kaleb and Brea, Alex (Amylin) Roman, Sawyer and Warren, and Alyssa. He was the rock of the family and will be forever missed. Jeffrey James Trendel passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the age of 74 years. Dear brother of Dennis (Elizabeth) Trendel. Beloved uncle of Denise (Steve) Jaeger, Julie (Rick) Stephenson and Jason (Kim) Trendel. Jeff is also loved and will be missed by great-nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Evelyn and Joseph Trendel.

Gary Edward Goldbeck, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 22, 2021. Gary was born in Milwaukee, survived by his children Brandon (Rachel) Goldbeck, Todd (Jodi) Goldbeck; his grandchildren, Isabella, Madison, Tate and Tanner; sister Joan (Erv) Julien; along with many loyal friends.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Ellen Caprice Goldbeck.

Gary grew up in West Allis where he competed in Speed Skating at the highest level in the country. He was an accomplished baseball player and played on the most competitive baseball teams in the Milwaukee region. He attended West Allis Central High School and the University of Wisconsin - Stout where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts Education. He went on to achieve his Master's Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin - Stout as well. He taught for over 30 years in the Waukesha Public School system, most notably at Butler Middle School where he met some amazing lifelong friends. He was a pioneer for school technology advancement and modernization of classroom audio/video capabilities. He enjoyed country living and he spent his free time hunting and fishing up north and in Canada. He enjoyed his hobby farm where he and his sons raised animals and participated in 4H. His love of animals extended to his many generations of barn kitties. As a proud parent, he attended nearly every sporting event that his sons participated. He traveled anywhere and everywhere to watch his sons compete in football, wrestling and track. Gary will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Janesville, WI -- Ronald R. Brown, age 75, of Janesville, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Ron was born in Edgerton, WI, on July 9, 1943, the son of Paul and Pauline Risser. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam era, and went on to earn his Master's Degree in Education from UW Stout in Menomonie. Ron married his loving wife and best friend, Sandra (Bergeron) Brown, on July 30, 1977 at Faith Lutheran Church in Janesville. Ron worked as a Tech Ed and Drivers Ed teacher, and wrestling coach at Parker High School from 1971 to 2000. Ron fought his ailing health for many years, but always found a way to overcome this for the sake of his family and spending time with them. From Packers games, to hunting trips, to Thanksgiving Day in a hotel, Ron always managed to find a way to bring his family together. Ron was competitive and determined, and he also had an inviting and generous nature. Ron's incredibly big heart and love for those around him will never be forgotten.

Schneck, Gerald "Gerry" 72 of Mankato, passed away December 8, 2020 at home after battling chronic leukemia. A celebration of his life will be announced in 2021. Gerry was born on April 24, 1948 in Minneapolis, MN to Robert and Betty Schneck. He grew up in Minneapolis and would fondly recall how he once became lost in a cornfield that later became the parking lot for Southdale Center in Edina. During his childhood, Gerry took instruction and direction from the renowned Larry Malmberg playing and performing on the accordion and competed in numerous national competitions. Upon graduation from Southwest High School in 1966, Gerry obtained his undergraduate and master degrees at University of Wisconsin-Stout. He graduated in 1980 from the University of Minnesota with a Doctorate of Philosophy majoring in Vocational Education with supporting fields in Rehabilitation Counseling and Special Education. Gerry played out his lifelong dedication to education as a Professor of Rehabilitation and Vocational Counseling at Minnesota State University Mankato, where he enjoyed teaching and advising students from 1982 to 2011. He also established the first university-based advanced graduate program for rehabilitation professionals in Forensic Vocational Rehabilitation (2001-2011). He took pride in his active military reserve service of 18 years in the U. S. Army Reserve. His last post was with HQ, 88th U.S. Army Reserve Command Ft. Snelling, MN where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant in 1988. While serving in the reserve, Gerry was awarded a 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster (1987) a U. S. Army Commendation Medal, as Instructor, U. S. Army Forces Command Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program. He became a member of Veterans for Peace. Gerry was known for his humor and had an outgoing and friendly personality. He was the family's "travel agent" researching many destinations that resulted in delightful trips to Montana and Europe. He could go anywhere in the world and run into someone he knew and he always did whenever he would go on vacation. He ran with friends in the Twin Cities and Grandma's Marathons. Using the carpentry skills he learned working for his father's construction company, Gerry and his son Steven built a deck for their home. Along with being an avid reader, he painted with watercolors, in his later years. He was actively involved in St. John's Episcopal Church for 30 years. While teaching at MSUM, he met his wife Pam also a university employee. They were married in 1988 and were blessed with 32 years together. When their son Steven was born, he became the delight of their lives. Gerry was a lovingly involved father who took Tae Kwon Do lessons with his son, participated in scouting meetings and events, and also attended his son's soccer games. Another fond memory was when Gerry and Steven built their first computer together. He took time out of his full schedule to help his family, friends and others. Gerry touched many lives throughout his life leaving his special imprint with them. Gerry is survived by his spouse, Pam Bartholomew, son Steven Schneck, and siblings Barbara (John) Rochford, Dennis (Betsy) Schneck, and sisters-in-law Deborah Schneck and Sally (Edward) Moore, uncle Ralph Heath, nieces and nephews Elizabeth (Mat) Wright, Julie Rochford, Abby Schneck, Michael Rochford, and Robert Schneck along with many cousins, great nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Charles Schwanke, brother Lawrence Schneck, and nephew Christopher Schneck.

Randy Wegener was born on August 24, 1954 in Fond du Lac, WI to Glenn and Phyllis {nee Yoder}
Wegener. He grew up in Fond du Lac while spending summers at Camp Charles Allis on Lake
Beulahin East Troy, WI. After high school, Randy attended UW-Stout majoring in Indutrial Education
with specialization in Woods, and Plastics. In 1994, he married Leesa Maxwell, his college sweetheart.
They shared three children, Jesse, Rachel, and Linnea as well as a variety of pets including several dogs,
a couple of cats, a few fish, and even a hamster -which Randy insisted on calling "the rodent".

Randy had a love for woodworking and a special eye for detail. He was passionate about sharing his craft
with othersand taught woodworking for 26 years beginningaat Mishicot High School and ending his career
in Union Grove. Randy also ran a custom furniture business. Hardwood Furniture Inc. during which time
he both designed and built pieces of such quality that some said the pieces would literally last forever.

An activemember of Camp Charles Allis throughout his life, Randy was able to be the life of the party and
a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was committed to the community and what could be
accomplished if everyone pitched in for the well-being and the spirit of Camp. He continued to spend time
at Camp until the very end, his belief in the community driving him to help in what capacity he could.

His time on Beulah was. of course, nothing without the Lake Beulah Yacht Club, an organizationwhich meant so much both to both Randy and his father, Glenn, Randy spent many years sailing and teaching at the Sailing School. He worked to bolster the sailing curriculum as his father had done years earlier. Many of his friends
from Camp and the Yacht Club were some of Randy's dearest and he loved being able to share those pieces of his life with his family.

One of Randy's greatest gifts was his terrific dedication as a father. As a dad Randy had a set of values which didn't waiver. He wanted us to be truly kind. He wanted us to support the team and be willing to help out. He believed if you had fun then you were a winner. He was more interested in who we sat with at lunch
than high marks on a test. He wanted us to have the ability to laugh at ourselves. He wanted us to do work we could be proud of. He taught us there was always time for the scenic route.

Randy especially loved to support his kids through their athletic endeavors. Cheering from the sidelines stepping in to coach or converting the living room to a football field, basketball court or hockey rink - as with most things, he was creative and filled wth energy in yhe process. Randy also believed in Odyssey of the Mind
and the values it instilled, spending many years coaching both Rachel and Linnea's teams. The concept of teaching kids to be independent problem solvers fit beautifully with his own capacity to be a tinkerer and dreamer.

As an extension of his deep support for all Wisconsin sports teams, Randy loved to use the grill in true Randy fashion, grilling ar the Wegener's was a celebratory event. The exact timing of the meat was important {and down to a science}, but an afternoon grilling wasn't complete without tossing the football, music, and a group of people to share the experience. Randy brought his quick-witted sense of humor to all things, able to keep a smile onhis face and yours.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Phyllis Wegener. He is survived by his wife, Leesa Maxwell, and his three children Jesse (Suzie) Maxwell, and Rachel and Linnea Wegener as well as two grandchildren: Kaylee and Carter. He is also survived byn his brother, Daniel (Mary Estern)
Wagener, his sister Diane (John) Hoffffman. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Since we will not be having a memorial gathering at this time, please feel free to celebrate Randy in other ways. We suggest that you grab a beverage of your choice, do a bit of grilling with a Tim Allen grunt and listen to some Jimmy Buffet. Savor the moment and make as many puns as you need, in order to make those around you smile.

William “Bill” John passed away peacefully Monday, March 2, 2020 at the age of 76. Beloved husband of Francine (Nee Rickel) for 36 years. Loving father of Michelle (Benjamin) Olson. Stepfather of Scott (Jill) Lazovik, Kevin (Ginger) Lazovik. Proud Popso of 12 grandchildren: Jackson, Vivian, Benjamin, Truman, Caroline, Annabelle, Graham, Evie, Harris, Brooklyn, Dawson and Margot. Lifelong and much loved shop teacher in the Whitefish Bay School District and long-time Whitefish Bay resident. This well-known handyman spent numerous hours volunteering at Eastbrook Church where he was a long-time member. Loved his fur-baby Mazey, telling countless jokes, playing weekly racquetball games, “putzing” around the house, watching sports of all kinds, and striking up a conversation with anyone in ear shot.

William Gehrand, 75, passed peacefully in his sleep Oct. 22, 2019. Born August 9, 1944 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He is survived by his brother, Jerry and his ex-spouse, Debbie Gorby McMann. His father was Lawrence A Gehrand and his mother was Velma Gehrand (Cardoni). He went to grade and high school in Delavan Wisconsin. He graduated from Stout State University in 1967. He was President of his fraternity, Sigma Pi. It was there that he made life long friends. Moving to Clearwater, Florida in 1970, he and his brother, Jerry started G & G Structures, a commercial contracting company. He was President of Pinellas Contractors and Builders Association. The company built over 200 commercial buildings. He touched many lives and was considered a friend to many. A memorial service will be held at a later date

Bernard (Bernie) David Schmidt, 76, died on July 7, 2019, in Parker, Colorado, after a long illness.
Bernie was born in Park Falls and attended Stout State University in Menomonie. He earned a degree in systems engineering while serving in the ROTC. He married Jan McCollum in 1968 and went on to serve as an F4 pilot in the Marine Corps. Bernie served in Vietnam and was later stationed at Yuma, Arizona; Quantico, Virginia; Iwokuni, Japan; Camp Pendleton and El Toro Air Bases in California.

Cyril Joseph Pontillo, Ph.D., 78, of Fort Wayne died Dec. 22, 2018. Cy was born to the late Edith and Cyril Pontillo on April 17, 1940, in Kenosha, Wis.. Cy was the beloved husband of Elaine Pontillo. Cy and his wife made Fort Wayne their home in 2005. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He completed his graduate study with his Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University -Carbondale. His successful career in higher education administration progressed and brought him from many years of service at Gateway Technical College in Wisconsin to four other states and vice president positions. He was a passionate football enthusiast playing for Northwestern University and University of Wisconsin-Stout, and ending his playing days with a brief career with the Chicago Bears in 1965. He enjoyed time with his family and traveling, hunting, fishing and time at the lake cottage in Ohio. He was the loving father of Lisa (Jason) Bailey and grandfather of Antonia and Ciara Bailey of Elk River, MN. He is survived by his siblings, Dennis Pontillo and Dena Pontillo of Kenosha, WI.

Michael L. Stella, 72, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016 surrounded by his loving family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 15, 1943, in Kenosha, Wis., and was the son of the late Michael and Louise (Morrone) Stella. He was the youngest of seven children, and part of a close knit Italian immigrant family.

Mike attended the University of Wisconsin - Stout where he earned his bachelor's degree in Industrial Education. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Cheryl (Peterson). They were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Menomonie, Wis., on Aug. 21, 1965.

Upon graduation, they moved to North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where he began his career as an industrial arts teacher at Horace Mann High School. He was a passionate high school football coach, starting as an assistant under his good friend Neil Kohn and eventually becoming the head coach. In addition, he was a Track and Field coach and started the Power Lifting program. Mike was a volunteer EMT and firefighter for 12 years for the Village of North Fond du Lac.

After 17 years as an educator and coach, Mike made a career change and became a Senior Marketing Representative at Federated Insurance. He held this position for 24 years. After retiring, he worked for McClone Insurance Agency for another 3 years before hitting the golf course.

Mike was proud of his many accomplishments, including completing two marathons. But his greatest pride and joy were his two children and his four grandchildren. He was extremely supportive of his children never missing a single event. He adored his grandchildren. He would drop anything to spend time with them, whether it be golfing with Colin, sledding, flying down the Slip & Slide, and "pig pile on Grandpa."

He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl of 50 years; two children, Dr. Amy Stella (Chad) Gabert and Christopher (Quynh) Stella; four grandchildren, Colin and Gianna Gabert, Morgan and Clayton Stella; one sister, Carolyn (Frank) Gagliardi; mother-in-law Lorraine Peterson; one sister-in-law, Joann Stella; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Albert, Martin, Serafino, Louis, and Alfred; two sisters-in-law, Jan Stella and Rosemary Stella; nephews, Frank "Skip" Stella and Lewis "Butch" Stella. He is further preceded in death by father-in-law Morris Peterson and one brother-in-law, Lance Peterson.

Visitation: Family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way in Fond du Lac.

Services: A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday following the visitation at Noon. Cremation has taken place.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 5th floor staff at St. Agnes Hospital, especially nurses Stormy and Hanna. In addition, we thank Dr. Jones and Dr. Liss at the Agnesian Cancer Center for their expert care and his favorite chemotherapy nurse Kelly. We would also like to thank the Hospice Home of Hope for their compassionate care during Mike's final days.

Harold H. Halfin, 93, of Menomonie, WI, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at The Neighbors of Dunn County.

Harold Herman Halfin was born on August 1, 1923 in Dilliner, PA. He attended one-room public schools on Walnut Hill and graduated from Point Marion High School at the age of sixteen. Before entering the U.S. army he worked at a grocery store in Point Marion, PA and helped when needed in the Evergreen Cemetery. He worked in Ravenna, OH at an ordinance (shell) producing plant. He entered the Army at the age of nineteen and served three years of active duty in both the European and Asiatic-Pacific theaters in WWII. Harold joined the Army Reserve and had attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (W-2) when he was transferred to the Retired Reserve in March 1966. He went on the Freedom Honor Flight from LaCrosse to Washington, DC in September 2012.

After returning from the Army in 1946, he worked in a coal mine 3 miles from his home, shoveling coal, filling in where ever he was needed, and helping the blacksmith. There he learned about blacksmithing, sharpening mine augers, operating a milling machine, lathe, electric and gas welding, and the heat treatment of metal. He then started working in the mine office doing payroll, and shipping coal. His boss encouraged him to go to college. He started college on the GI Bill and continued to work at the mine on weekends and in the summers in the mine office. He also delivered U.S. mail, part-time.
On July 11, 1947, Harold married Ruby Lewis, also of Dilliner, PA, in Deep Creek, Maryland. They were married for over 67 years.

Harold earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree, with highest honor, from Fairmont State College in West Virginia and a Master of Science degree from Stout State College, Menomonie, Wisconsin. In 1973 he received his Doctor of Education degree from West Virginia University.

His professional career included teaching at Hubbard High School in Ohio, Fairmont State College in West Virginia, West Virginia University and the University of Wisconsin-Stout from where he retired in 1986 after 30.5 years.
Harold’s career at the University of Wisconsin-Stout included teaching metals classes, chairing the metals department, directing the Master of Science degree program in Vocational, Technical and Adult Education and co-chairing the Center for Vocational, Technical and Adult Education. Under his leadership in writing grant proposals, the Center received yearly research funding. He was instrumental in the development of the Education Specialist degree in Industrial and Vocational Education at UW-Stout and served as director of the program. He served as an evaluator of numerous vocational-technical school programs including programs in Taiwan and Oregon State University. On July 15, 1985, he received the “Eagle’s Award”, the outstanding service award, awarded by the Instructional Services Committee of the Wisconsin Vocational, Technical & Adult Education Administrators Association. This was the first time the award was given to an outsider.

After his retirement, he began his life as a volunteer. He gave presentations on “Volunteerism”. He demonstrated volunteerism himself by volunteering to help people with health care issues. He received the award for Dunn County Outstanding Older American from the Dunn County Office on Aging, after he served on the board and worked on health care issues by serving as a Medicare-Medicaid Assistance Program counselor. He worked with AARP, frequently gave speeches on Health Care issues, served on the Wisconsin State Legislative Committee (served 2 years as Chair), served on the National Legislative Committee, was an AARP State trainer, and served as Assistant State Coordinator for Long-Term Care. On December 11, 1989, Harold spoke at the “Medigap Insurance: Cost, Confusion, and Criminality” hearing before the Special Committee on Aging, of the United States Senate. He was on the steering committee that formed the PartnerCare Program and became a PartnerCare volunteer. He was part of the Coalition of Wisconsin Health for 2 years. In 1993, he received the H. Conrad Hoyer Award for Leadership from the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups.

Harold also volunteered with groups to improve his community. He was a member of the Pounding Fathers Group for 15 years (a group of mostly retired faculty from UW-Stout, who offered construction and handyman services to local residents and nonprofit organizations). He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, helping build several homes. He was a member of the “Cap Carpenters”, volunteer carpenters for the Dunn County Historical Society. He was a member of the Dunn County Interfaith Caregivers (now Stepping Stones), providing food, shelter, and support to the community. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he organized the annual Pig Roast for several years.

Harold volunteered in many other areas, also. He was a member of the American Legion, Wisconsin Retired Educators’ Association, volunteered for the Dunn County United Way picking up donated holiday gifts, was on the Public Policy Committee of the Indianhead chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, was on the Dunn County Christmas-for-Kids program, worked for the Meals-on-Wheels program, was a Charter Member of the Kiwanis Club of Menomonie that helped the youth organizations with their recycling program at the landfill and did special recycling pickups for businesses, and served on the Menomonie (now Shirley Doane) Senior Center Board. On Feb 2, 2005, Harold received the 2004 Good Neighbor Award from the Greater Menomonie Area Chamber of Commerce.

He also enjoyed time with friends. He was a member of The Poker Club, which started in 1958, until 2016 when he became too ill to continue. He occasionally enjoyed ice fishing. He caught an award winning walleye (11 pound, 10 ounce) from Lake Tainter in December 1962.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, on January 9, 2015; parents, Oliver Ellsworth and Pearl (Stewart) Halfin; and all of his siblings and their spouses.
His is survived by his daughter, Janet (Darrell) Quarderer, granddaughter, Jennifer (Blair) Berger, 3 great grandsons: Blake, Ethan and Aaron, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie with Pastor Wendy Slaback officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie, with military honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.

Kenneth J. “Ken” Stangel, age 64, of Dodgeville, died on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at his home following a stroke. Ken was born on February 8, 1952 in Two Rivers to Harvey and Florence (Goetz) Stangel. He was a 1970 graduate of Roncalli High School and a 1975 graduate of U.W. Stout. Ken married Vickie Reynolds of Dodgeville on July 17, 1976. Ken taught Business and Marketing at Moraine Park Technical College until moving to Dodgeville in 1998 where he taught at S.W. Technical College for a year. Ken and Vickie also owned and operated Fieldhouse Fruit Farm in Dodgeville. Ken’s love of small business led to him working part time at Kwik Trip. He was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity and enjoyed being a DECA Advisor on both the high school and college level. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, grocery shopping and shooting pool with his sons. Always involved in his sons’ activities, he was a Scout Leader and Coach for their football, soccer and wrestling endeavors. His greatest joy was time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Virginia Reynolds and his cousin, Tom Pyrek.

Ken is survived by his wife, Vickie of Dodgeville; four sons, Kirk (Erin) Stangel of Greendale; David (Sara) Stangel of Oconomowoc; Michael (Ashley) Stangel of Johnson Creek and Nathan (Maria) Stangel of Dodgeville; six grandchildren, Jackson, Cadence, Bo, Ava, Sullivan and Eisley Stangel; four siblings, Ronald (Kay) Stangel of Two Rivers; Paul (Leora) Stangel of Sturgeon Bay; Teresa (John) Quello of Kimberly and Lori (Lee) Mueller of Kewaunee; his father-in-law, John “Jack” (Marian) Reynolds of Dodgeville; Vickie’s siblings, Roxanne (Robert) Reynolds-Lair of Dodgeville; Dr. Marsha (Dan) Van Riper of Chapel Hill, NC; Cherie (Kevin) Greek of Appleton; Pamela (Terry) Sible of Orlando, FL and John (Cindy) Reynolds III of Dodgeville; his cousin and best friend, Lee Gauthier as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville with Msgr. Daniel Ganshert officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville and at the church on Wednesday after 10:00 A.M. Herbert P. Solinsky, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on July 30, 2015 in Merritt Island, Florida.He was born on Nov. 24,1947 to the late Herb and Erna Solinsky of Woodruff.He is survived by his loving wife, Leanne, of Merritt Island; sisters, Bonnie (Ron) Lang of Marathon, and Carol (Dick) Giese of Arbor Vitae; seven very special nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and nephews. His ashes will be scattered at his favorite deer stand in Wisconsin at a later date. No services will be held per his request.Herb was an avid hunter and fisherman and he lived life to the fullest. This charity provides hunting and fishing trips for children with life-threatening illness.

Paul A. Axelsen, 87, of Menomonie, died Monday April 28, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Menomonie.

Paul was born May 17, 1926, in Sparta. He was the son of Anders and Hazel (Meacham) Axelsen. He attended grade school and high school in Sparta, graduating in 1944.

Paul served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged. Paul received his B.S. degree from Stout Institute in industrial education, printing in 1950. He spent a year at Ashbaugh Printing in Eau Claire before moving to Owatonna, Minn. where he was employed by Jostens, American Yearbook Division.

Paul married Beatrice Sagstetter on Sept. 15, 1951, at St. John Catholic Church in Plum City. Paul worked for a short time teaching printing at Pattengill Junior High in Lansing, Mich. In 1955, Paul returned to Stout where he received his masters degree. While there, the enrollment jumped and Paul was offered a teaching position in the printing department.

Sixteen years later, Paul left the printing department and transferred to the planning area. The Administration Building, Science & Technology Building, Child Study Building and several other projects were underway at the time. Paul prepared Environmental Impact Studies, administered the Relocation Law, and maintained the room inventory and other paperwork required by central administration.

Paul worked at several newspapers and print shops before and after he was married. He got his start in printing, using a foot pedal platen press at home that his father bought at an auction. Paul worked for the Monroe County Democrat where they printed the “Real McCoy” paper for the Army stationed at Fort McCoy. While there, he learned to operate the linotype machine. Paul also worked printing jobs at Powell and Rawlins, Wyo. While teaching at Stout, Paul spent several summers as “vacation help” at the Chronotype in Rice Lake and The Dunn County News in Menomonie.

Paul retired in 1987. Paul & Bea spent 20 years wintering in Mesa, Ariz. and enjoying summers in Menomonie. While in Mesa, Paul kept busy in the lapidary and silversmith shops making rings, earrings and necklaces from silver and polished stones; many clocks were made from polished slabs of rock.

In 1977, Paul and Bea moved from their all-electric ranch house and terraced backyard to a condo in Wellington Estates for easier living. In the fall of 2012, Paul and Bea moved into the Comforts of Home Assisted Living.

Paul is survived by his wife, Beatrice; his son, Anders “Andy” (Kari) of Temple, Texas; three grandsons, Aaron, Adam and Alec; two sisters-in-law, Berniece Marte and Emily Axelsen; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dick, in 2005; and a sister in infancy.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. on Friday May 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Thomas Krieg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

William G. Hintz more affectionately known to UW-Stout members of Sigma Pi Fraternity as "Colonel Von Hintz" died October 30, 2014 in South Milwaukee while celebrating his birthday with immediate family members. According to family members he was enjoying a large steak dinner and glass of Jameson when he suffered a heart attack. Bill was a three time cancer survivor. Services were held Thursday evening November 6, 2014 in South Milwaukee.

Bill served two tours of duty during Vietnam in the late 1960's with the US Marines and was involved in heavy combat in the infamous Na Trang valley earning two Purple Hearts. At the funeral services a letter from a Marine "battle buddy" told of Bill's heroism in running with a bag of grenades and taking out several Viet Cong machine gun nests during one of many battles he was involved with. In later years Bill traveled for many years to the Philippines for unit reunions with his USMC "fire team".

Bill earned his BS Degree from UW-Stout in 1975 after surviving several years at 317 Park Avenue and later earned a Masters Degree in Engineering. He worked in several top secret engineering positions with Boeing, McDonnel-Douglas, and several other large military contract aircraft firms with family members not knowing where he was stationed for many years. He retired in early 2000's and was living in South Milwaukee.

Perry M. Savage, 65, Wausau, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Perry served six years in the National Guard. He was a retired special education teacher with the Wausau School District.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Viergutz Savage, Wausau; a daughter, Christa (Joe) Savage-Gore, Wausau; one son, Jared (Mary) Savage, Wausau; two grandsons; one sister, Susan (Jack) Antell, Atlanta; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

James Dennis Blaskovich, 68, of Aurora, IL and formerly Batavia, died Monday, August 16, 2010. He was born October 3, 1941 in Hinsdale, IL the son of the late Anton and Frances (Matkowitz) Blaskovich.

Surviving him are his wife, Pam (Hilderbrand); his sons, Jon (Jennifer) of Branford, CT, Jason of Tampa, FL, Mark and Sam Hilderbrand of Oceanside, CA; his brothers Richard (Constance) and Terry (Steve Spellman) Blaskovich. "Grandpa Jim" will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Sophie, Cole, Greta and Bubby.

Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Blaskovich.

He received a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Technology from Stout State College, Menomonie, WI (now the University of Wisconsin-Stout) in 1965, and served honorably as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army between 1967 and 1969.

As a second generation builder of custom homes, he owned Blaskovich Builders, Inc. and designed and built many custom homes in the Woodland Hills subdivision of Batavia. He was known for his detail and fine finish carpentry. He enjoyed fishing, boating, classic cars and tending his outdoor grill.

A celebration of life for friends and family will be held Friday, August 20, from 6 pm to 9 pm at his home.

Wayne was a teacher for the Flint Community Schools for 36 years, retiring in 2000. David G. Schneck "Bear" age 80 of Greendale passed away on May 27, 2023. Preceded in death by parents George and Emma (Holzhueter) Schneck; sisters Ruth Schneck and Jane (Schneck) Eke; brother-in-law Alan Eke; and great-niece Shay Yurcek. Survived by nieces and nephews Ann Yurcek (James Yurcek, MD); Daniel Eke (Karen Heintz); Martha (Joseph) Christian; Gretchen Grandgenett, MD (Steven Grandgenett); and Timothy (Katrina) Eke; 21 great and 7 great-great nieces and nephews.

Born in Eau Claire, WI and raised in Menomonie, Dave graduated from Menomonie High School in 1960 and then went on to attend Stout State College, now UW-Stout, where he earned his bachelor's degree in engineering in 1964. While there, he became a proud member of the Sigma Pi fraternity making friendships that endured throughout his life. His fraternity brothers dubbed him "Bear," a nickname that lives on to this day with many friends not even knowing his given name. Special thanks are extended to his fraternity brothers who supported him during his final years. He loved and appreciated all of you.

Following graduation, Dave worked as an engineer for Evinrude Outboard Motors and Waukesha Engines. Later, he was blessed to work with his dear friend and fraternity brother, Glen Hardy at both Jervis B. Webb Co., and J. S. Alberici Construction. Dave was a member of Chapter 2337 of the Milwaukee Millwright's Union. Although his home base was Milwaukee, his work sent him across the country for long stretches of time. He made friends wherever he went and was known everywhere for his musical prowess on the kazoo.

Dave was a Corvette guy. He inspired multiple generations of nieces and nephews to appreciate the joy of driving convertibles. He loved boating on Lake Pewaukee, downhill skiing, and snowmobiling. His greatest joy, however, was going to the Road America races in his prized motorhome.

He will be laid to rest in a graveside service at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery; County Road Y Menomonie, WI 54751 on June 16, 2023 at 10:30am. Reid W. Bergren, 76, of the town of Trenton, passed away on December 5, 2023, at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.

Reid was born on November 24, 1947, in Superior, Wisconsin, the son of the late Wallace and Vivian (nee Bergren) Nelson. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968 until 1969. On December 18, 1993, he was united in marriage to Connie Molaski.

Those Reid leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Connie; two children, Emily (Matthew) Custer and Vivian Bergren; four sisters, Tracy (Bret) Homich, Ronna Rubel, Tari Holtz, and Laurel (Ed) Marvin; three brothers, Michael Bergren, Lance Bergren, and Mark (Marsha) Bergren; other relatives and friends.
